All:

And then comes the dawn, or so it seemed when yesterday I read one of Mr. Rahul Verma's posts on the "Royal Court" [ http://blogs.thehindu.com/delhi/?p=18880 ], which opened in place of "Ten".

With the next mission in sight, I headed straight out for lunch today to the Court. Now, for all the people who've been to Ten, the progress of this comment may seem like the wait for an exam result, however, its essential, hear me out.

It's got one of those generic "Enjoy Coca-Cola" boards advertising it's presence outside the YWCA compound. What was the lush green in front of Ten with the white beach chairs has been ripped off, and, at least till today afternoon, there were only scattered shrubs trying to out-do each other at making the place look rather unwelcoming, or even ugly. That, the restaurant retains Ten's front glass wall doesn't help the brilliant view. The ambience has, Im sorry to say, become "crap". Really, metallic paintings with faux-wood plastic frames adorn the not-so-well-patterned walls. And - I remember reading about a similar experience on another thread as well - expectedly there was the quintessential plasma display with CNBC TV-18 blaring out loud over my head. The furniture has been handpicked from the cheapest of restaurants with the over glossy white look and brown-tinted glass topped tables.

Lets move on to the menu, it contains spelling errors, now I know how adorable those mistakes can be on roadside dhabas, but considering the shoes this place was trying to fit into, I was completely pissed of with "meals" being spelt as "maels" or something similar. The prices, and I wonder how Mr. Verma considers a bowl of daal makhani for Rs. 200 as reasonable, are unreasonable and irrational, to say the least. Paneer Tikka is for Rs. 140, Daal makhani for Rs. 200, Arhar Daal for Rs. 150 (!). Again, this should not be compared to other peer establishments, but Ten? C'mon. A total of two waiters man the restaurant.

So I ordered the staple-tester mughlai food (daal, a "butter" dish, tikka and naan). After having had waited for about half an hour, one of the waiters came over and told me that they were out of daal makhani. I, naturally, was quite upset at that, and being short on time could not try anything else. On asking him why I was being told now, I was told that they had just started cooking my order (a half hour is a little late, I think, considering I was there on a monday afternoon for lunch). Of course, this may possibly mean that the daal makhani may be insane and therefore was in short supply, who knows? However, the food better be utterly delicious and out of this world for it to reclaim even a percent of what Ten stood for.

So please, get out, get to YWCA and inform about the food, someone?

Regards
Shashank

Wow I am finding so many MUST GO places on this blog that I am feeling SAD. I need to quit my job, rob a bank and set out day and night for these culinary adventures!
Thanks to Deepak for guiding me here yet again, though i've been here before...

The Greek Salad is a good choice too.
Dijon Chicken, must try.

Hey, am Ten regular since boyfriend works nextdoor, and I agree with you on much of the above (though am not quite sure about the service charge being totally justified). What I also discovered is that they have a fab breakfasts for 75 bucks awnly - choice of eggs, cornflakes, pot of tea/ coffee, toast and butter/marmalade - So if you ever find yourself hungus the fungus (my term for ravenous) in CP at 7.30 am, good to head here! (Psst...no brunch though - they shut betweent 10.30 and 12.30); when I say I'm a regular, i really mean it, okay)
